Suspicious package cleared


L'Enfant Plaza Metrorail station reopened

L’Enfant Plaza Metrorail station was closed for about an hour and a half this evening (Wednesday, August 26), from 8:19 to 9:45 p.m. while officials investigated a report of a suspicious package. The station was closed at the request of the District of Columbia Fire Department.

The Metro Transit Police Explosive Ordnance Detection Team and the D.C. Fire Department responded to the scene, investigated and determined that the unattended briefcase was of no danger. The briefcase was inside the station near the 9th and D Street entrance.

During the incident, free shuttle buses were used to move passengers to other stations to allow them to continue their trips. L’Enfant Plaza services the Blue, Orange, Yellow and Blue Lines.
