Metro's September weekend track maintenance schedule set


Customers should add 20 to 45 minutes to their travel times for scheduled maintenance

This month, in addition to this weekend’s closure of the Pentagon City, Crystal City and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport Metrorail stations for track maintenance, Metro will replace drainage pump cables, cross ties, and make repairs to its aerial structures to upkeep the tracks and help ensure reliable Metrorail service. Customers should expect travel delays during the weekends of Sept. 11 to Sept. 13, Sept. 18 to Sept. 20, and Sept. 25 to Sept. 27.

Friday, Sept. 4, to Monday, Sept. 7

Blue/Yellow Line -- Track work will close three Blue and Yellow Line Metrorail stations in Northern Virginia this upcoming Labor Day weekend. The Pentagon City, Crystal City, and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport Metrorail stations will be closed from 9:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, to closing, (midnight) Monday, Sept. 7. These stations will reopen at 5 a.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Metro will provide free shuttle bus service between the Pentagon Transit Center and the Pentagon City, Crystal City, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Braddock Road and Franconia-Springfield Metrorail stations. Customers riding, or connecting to the Blue and Yellow lines this weekend should add an additional 45 minutes of travel time.

Friday, Sept. 11, to Sunday, Sept. 13

Red Line -- Metrorail customers traveling between the Medical Center and Grosvenor-Strathmore Metrorail stations should add at least 20 minutes to their travel time for their trips because Metro will replace drainage pump cables. Trains will share one track between these locations from 9:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 11, to closing (midnight), on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Orange Line -- Metrorail customers traveling between the East Falls Church and Ballston-MU Metrorail stations should add at least 20 minutes of travel time to their trips because Metro will replace crossties, the track support structures. Trains will share one track between these locations from 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 11, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Green Line -- Metrorail customers traveling between the Greenbelt and College Park-U of Md Metrorail stations should add at least 20 minutes of travel time to their trips because Metro will be tamping the rail tracks to ensure durability. Trains will share one track between these locations from 9:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 11, to 6 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 13.

Friday, Sept. 18, to Sunday, Sept. 20

Red Line -- Metrorail customers traveling between the Medical Center and Grosvenor-Strathmore Metrorail stations should add at least 20 minutes to that travel time for their trips because Metro will replace drainage pump cables. Trains will share one track between these locations from 9:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 18, to closing (midnight), on Sunday, Sept. 20.

Orange Line -- Metrorail customers traveling between the East Falls Church and Ballston-MU Metrorail stations should add at least 20 minutes of travel time to their trips because Metro will replace crossties, the track support structures. Trains will share one track between these locations from 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 18, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, Sept. 20.

Friday, Sept. 25, to Sunday, Sept. 27

Orange Line -- Metrorail customers traveling between the Cheverly and Stadium-Armory Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes to their travel time because Metro will replace crossties and conduct maintenance on the aerial structure outside the Stadium-Armory Metrorail station. Trains will share one track between these locations from 9:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 25, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, Sept. 27.
