International street performers to entertain at Metrorail stations

Performers from France featured at Gallery Place and Dupont Circle

Metro’s Art in Transit program, in collaboration with The Kennedy Center and the Embassy of France, will present four entertaining performances at Gallery Place-Chinatown and Dupont Circle Metrorail stations on Friday, September 11, as part of the MetroPerforms! program. This new program will be the catalyst for development of an annual three-day festival featuring international street performers.

Each year, participating embassies and The Kennedy Center will bring international street performers to Washington to perform at public locations throughout the Washington Metropolitan region. This year’s performances at Metro stations, sponsored by the Embassy of France include, a juggler, magician and an acrobat, Beron; puppet theater featuring, “La cabane de Pepe;” street video comedy by The HomoCatodicus; and head-puppet shows featuring The Tonys.

Performances will take place outside of the Gallery Place-Chinatown station entrance at 7th & F Streets and the Dupont Circle station entrance at Connecticut Avenue and Q Street. Lunchtime performances at both stations begin at 11:30 am and end at 1:15 pm. Evening performances at both stations begin at 4:30 pm and end at 6:15 pm.

“We are very excited about working with The Kennedy Center and the participating embassies to expand MetroPerforms! to include performances by artists from other countries. Hopefully, someday, we can have local artists who perform in the subways of Paris or London,” said Michael McBride, Metro’s Art in Transit Manager.
