Regular service resumes on the Red Line


Man died after being struck by train at Gallery Place-Chinatown Metrorail station

Red Line service has returned to normal at 11:11 a.m. after a man was struck and killed by a six-car Red Line train headed in the direction of Shady Grove this morning, Sunday, September 13, at 7:58 a.m. The preliminary investigation indicates that according to eyewitness account, the man, a customer, placed himself in the path of the train.

During the incident, shuttle buses moved customers between Farragut North, Metro Center, Gallery Place and Judiciary Square Metrorail stations. Sunday is the least traveled day on the Metrorail system.

The Red Line at Metro Center and Gallery Place-Chinatown Metrorail stations had been closed down, however the stations remained open to service the other color lines through those stations. Metro Center also serves the Orange and Blue Lines and Gallery Place also serves the Green and Yellow lines.
