Metro Transit Police Officers to assist with security at G-20 Summit

Ten Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD) officers will travel to Pittsburgh next week to assist the Pittsburgh Police Department and Port Authority of Allegheny County with security associated with the G-20 Summit.

MTPD Lieutenant Greg Hanna, Bowie, Md., and MTPD Officers Nathaniel Herbert, Upper Marlboro, Md., Jeff Sesok, Germantown, Md., Lavel Brokenborough, Germantown, Md., Ian Barlow, Odenton, Md., Maurice McKinney, Suitland, Md., Gerald Hall, Washington, D.C., Requia Baker, Elkridge, Md., Noah Grubic, Wheaton, Md., and Lisa Smith, Clinton, Md., will represent Metro in Pittsburgh at the G-20 Summit.

The MTPD officers will be in Pittsburgh Sept. 23-25 at the request of the Pittsburgh Police Department and Port Authority of Allegheny County. The city sought assistance from police departments across the country as it anticipates large numbers of people gathering and possible demonstrations as the G-20 Summit takes place. Metro’s officers will assist with crowd control at the gathering of global leaders.

“It is an honor to send 10 exceptional Metro Transit Police Officers to Pittsburgh for the G-20,” said Metro Transit Police Chief Michael Taborn. “We are excited to assist our law enforcement partners with the safety and security of world leaders, their local community and participants of the summit.”

The officers heading to Pittsburgh were selected by their supervisors for outstanding job performance.
