Service at the Columbia Heights Metrorail station back to normal
Young man was fatally struck by train in early afternoon
Service returned to normal at 4:15 p.m. today, September 17, about two hours after a young man was fatally struck by a six-car Yellow Line train as it pulled into the Columbia Heights Metrorail station today at 1:55 p.m. The train was headed downtown.
The preliminary indication leads investigators to believe that the young man intentionally placed himself in the path of the train. He was a minor.
The station was closed temporarily from 1:55 to 2:40 p.m. while emergency crews responded to the scene. From 2:40 until normal service resumed, trains single-tracked through the area (shared one track).
The incident investigation is on-going.
