Metro's October weekend track maintenance schedule set


Columbus Day weekend track maintenance to close Waterfront, Archives and L'Enfant Plaza Yellow and Green Line stations

This month, in addition to the Columbus Day weekend closure of the Waterfront-SEU, Archives-Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter and L’Enfant Plaza Metrorail stations on the Yellow and Green lines, Metro will replace fasteners and cross ties, make tunnel repairs and make repairs to its aerial structures to upkeep the tracks and help ensure reliable Metrorail service. Customers should expect travel delays during the weekends of Oct. 2 to 4, Oct. 9 to 12, Oct. 23 to 25 and Oct. 30 to Nov. 1.

Friday, Oct. 2, to Sunday, Oct. 4

Red Line -- Metrorail customers traveling between the Medical Center and Grosvenor-Strathmore Metrorail stations should add at least 20 minutes to their travel time because Metro will replace rail fasteners that stabilize tracks, and make tunnel and aerial structure repairs. Trains will share one track between these locations the entire weekend from 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, Oct. 4.

Orange Line -- Metrorail customers traveling between the Cheverly and Stadium-Armory Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes to their travel time because Metro will replace crossties and conduct maintenance on the aerial structure outside the Stadium-Armory Metrorail station. Trains will share one track between these locations the entire weekend from 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, to 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 4.

Friday, Oct. 9, to Monday, Oct. 12

Green and Yellow Line -- The Waterfront-SEU and Archives-Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter Metrorail stations will be closed and the Green Line also will be closed at the L’Enfant Plaza Metrorail station from 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, through closing (midnight) on Monday, Oct. 12, with no Green or Yellow Line service at these three stations for the entire weekend.

Service will resume at 5 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13. The Yellow Line will operate between the Huntington and Stadium-Armory Metrorail stations from Saturday, Oct. 10, to Monday, Oct. 12. Free shuttle buses will operate between the Navy Yard and Gallery Place-Chinatown Metrorail stations.

Friday, Oct. 16, to Sunday, Oct. 18

There is no track maintenance scheduled.

Friday, Oct. 23, to Sunday, Oct. 25

Red Line -- Metrorail customers traveling between the Friendship Heights and Van Ness-UDC Metrorail stations should add at least 20 minutes to their travel time for their trips because Metro will replace rail fasteners that stabilize tracks and make tunnel repairs. Trains will share one track between these locations throughout the weekend from 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, Oct. 25.

Orange Line -- Metrorail customers traveling between the East Falls Church and Ballston-MU Metrorail stations should add at least 20 minutes of travel time to their trips because Metro will replace crossties, the track support structures. Trains will share one track between these locations throughout the weekend from 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, Oct. 25.

Friday, Oct. 30, to Sunday, Nov. 1
