Metro's October weeknight track maintenance schedule set


Customers should add 20 to 30 minutes to weeknight travel times

During October, Metro will replace fasteners, make tunnel repairs, make repairs to concrete slabs underneath the rails, and continue work in preparation for the upcoming Columbus Day weekend station closures of the Waterfront-SEU, Archives Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter and L’Enfant Plaza Metrorail station’s on the Green and Yellow lines (Orange and Blue Line open). Customers should add at least 30 minutes of additional travel time to their schedules from Sunday to Thursday nights from 9:30 p.m. to closing (midnight) on all five rail lines.

Red Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the Medical Center and Grosvenor-Strathmore Metrorail stations should add at least 20 minutes to their travel time for their trips to allow Metro to replace rail fasteners that stabilize tracks, and make tunnel and aerial structure repairs. Trains will share one track between these locations from 9:30 p.m., through closing (midnight) from Sunday, Oct. 4, through Thursday, Oct. 8; Sunday, Oct. 11, through Thursday, Oct. 15; Sunday, Oct. 18 through Thursday, Oct. 22; and Sunday, Oct. 25, through Thursday, Oct. 29.

Orange Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the New Carrollton and Cheverly Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes to their travel time while Metro replaces fasteners that stabilize the rail tracks. Trains will share one track between these locations from 9:30 p.m., through closing (midnight) from Sunday, Oct. 4, through Thursday, Oct. 8, and from Sunday, Oct. 11 through Thursday, Oct. 15.

Blue Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the Foggy Bottom-GWU and Arlington Cemetery Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes to their travel time while Metro replaces fasteners that stabilize the rail tracks. Trains will share one track between these locations from 9:30 p.m., through closing (midnight) from Sunday, Oct. 4, through Thursday, Oct. 8; Sunday, Oct. 11 through Thursday, Oct. 15; Sunday, Oct. 18, through Thursday, Oct. 22, and from Sunday, Oct. 25, through Thursday, Oct. 29.

Metrorail customers traveling between the Stadium-Armory and Addison Road-Seat Pleasant Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes to their travel time to allow Metro to replace concrete slabs underneath the rails. Trains will share one track between these locations from 9:30 p.m., through closing (midnight) from Sunday, Oct. 4, through Thursday, Oct. 8; Sunday, Oct. 11 through Thursday, Oct. 15; Sunday, Oct. 18, through Thursday, Oct. 22; and from Sunday, Oct. 25, through Thursday, Oct. 29.

Green and Yellow Line Track Maintenance

In preparation for the Columbus Day Weekend station closures of the Waterfront-SEU and Archives Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter Metrorail stations and the Green and Yellow Lines of the L’Enfant Plaza Metrorail station, Green Line trains will share one track between the Navy Yard and Mt. Vernon Sq/7th St-Convention Center Metrorail station, and Yellow Line trains will share one track between the Pentagon City and Mt. Vernon Sq/7th St-Convention Center Metrorail station to allow Metro to conduct preliminary work on the rail switch at the L’Enfant Plaza Metrorail station in preparation for its removal. Trains will share one track between these locations from 9:30 p.m., through closing (midnight) from Sunday, Oct. 4, through Thursday, Oct. 8.
