New York Ave, Union Station Metrorail stations reopened


Transit Police investigated a report of a suspicious package

The New York Ave and Union Station Metrorail stations on the Red Line were temporarily closed for 14 minutes today (October 16) due to a report of a suspicious package on board a train at New York Avenue Metrorail station. The station closed at 10:38 a.m. and reopened at 10:52 a.m., after police found nothing of concern.

The train temporarily held at New York Ave Metrorail station on the track headed in the direction of Shady Grove while Transit Police investigated.

Trains turned back at Judiciary Square and Rhode Island Avenue Metrorail stations, which necessitated the closure of both Union Station and New York Avenue stations while police investigated.

The incident was initially reported at 10:20 a.m.
