Metro's "Boo Bus" will give children a "Happy Halloween"

"Boo Bus" returns to the Anacostia Metrorail station for Halloween tricks and treats

The “Boo Bus,” Metro’s Halloween themed bus, will be on display at the Anacostia Metrorail station at Howard Rd, S.E., between Martin Luther King Jr., and Firth Sterling avenues on Thursday, Oct. 29, between noon and 2 p.m.

Metro employees, some dressed in Halloween costumes, will give away bags filled with treats in easy-to-see reflective safety bags to hundreds of children. Metro Transit Police along with McGruff the Crime Dog will be greeting the children and handing out safety tips with the treats.

Metro "ghouls and goblins" will escort the children, many of whom are dressed in Halloween costumes, through the haunted looking bus. The interior of the "Boo Bus," accompanied with haunting music, will be decorated with fake cobwebs, creepy crawlers and ghosts. "We feel that it’s very important to give back to the community by providing a fun and safe event for children and their parents here in Southeast," said Alva Kelly, a Southern Bus Division Service Operations Manager and one of the organizers of this event.

Savoy Elementary, Howard Road Academy, Watkins Elementary and Birney Elementary School students have all been invited along with their parents to the "Boo Bus" event as a way to safely start this weekend’s Halloween festivities.

This event is making its return after a two-year hiatus and is supported with funds donated by Metro employees. This is one of several outreach events that Metro employees host for their community throughout the year.
