McPherson Square Metrorail station reopens


Man fatally struck by train Monday night

The McPherson Square Metrorail station will reopen at 5 a.m. today, November 17, after a man was fatally struck by a Blue Line train as it pulled into the station at 8:35 p.m. Monday, November 16.

The preliminary police investigation indicates that the man intentionally placed himself in the path of an oncoming Blue Line train that was headed in the direction of Franconia-Springfield Metrorail station. He was struck by the train and died of his injuries.

McPherson Square Metrorail station was closed at 9:07 p.m. Monday, November 16, while Metro Transit Police conducted an investigation into the fatality.

During the incident, Metro provided free shuttle bus service to help move customers between Farragut West, McPherson Square, Metro Center and Federal Triangle Metrorail stations.

Police officials are continuing their investigation.
