Metro's December weeknight track maintenance schedule set

Customers should add 20 to 30 minutes to weeknight travel times

Most nights in December, Metro will replace fasteners, and make repairs to concrete slabs underneath the rails. Customers should add at least 20 to 30 minutes of additional travel time to their schedules from Sunday to Thursday nights between 8 and 9:30 p.m. to closing (midnight) on the Red, Blue and Orange lines. Metro will not conduct weeknight track maintenance on Christmas Eve, Thursday, Dec. 24, or New Year’s Eve, Thursday, Dec. 31.

Red Line Track Maintenance Sunday through Thursday nights

Metrorail customers traveling between the Medical Center and Grosvenor-Strathmore Metrorail stations should add at least 20 minutes to their travel time to allow Metro to replace rail fasteners that stabilize tracks. Trains will share one track between these locations from 8 p.m., through closing (midnight) from Dec. 1, to Dec. 3; Dec. 7, to Dec. 10; Dec. 14, to, Dec. 17; Dec. 20, to, Dec. 23, and Dec. 27 to Dec. 30.

This portion of work on the Red Line between the Medical Center and Grosvenor-Strathmore Metrorail stations is in conjunction with the Red Line rehabilitation contract. This work is an extension of Metro’s Track and Structures maintenance work of replacing track fasteners, track, crossties and insulators.

Blue Line Track Maintenance Sunday through Thursday nights

Metrorail customers traveling between the Stadium-Armory and Addison Road-Seat Pleasant Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes to their travel time to allow Metro to replace concrete slabs underneath the rails. Trains will share one track between these locations from 9:30 p.m., through closing (midnight) from Dec. 1, to Dec. 3; Dec. 6, to Dec. 10; Dec. 13 to Dec. 17; Dec. 20, to Dec. 23, and Dec. 27 to Dec. 30.

Orange Line Track Maintenance Sunday through Thursday nights

Metrorail customers traveling between the Cheverly and New Carrollton Metrorail stations should add at least 20 minutes to their travel time to allow Metro to replace rail fasteners that stabilize tracks. Trains will share one track between these locations from 9:30 p.m., through closing (midnight) from Dec. 1, to Dec. 3; Dec. 6, to, Dec. 10; Dec. 13 to, Dec. 17; Dec. 20, to Dec. 23, and Dec. 27, to Dec. 30.

Blue and Orange Line Track Maintenance Sunday through Thursday nights

Metrorail customers traveling between the Foggy Bottom and Clarendon (Orange Line) and Arlington Cemetery (Blue Line) Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes to their travel time to allow Metro to replace rail fasteners that stabilize tracks. Trains will share one track between these locations from 9:30 p.m., through closing (midnight) from Dec. 6, to Dec. 10; Dec. 13 to Dec. 17; Dec. 20, to Dec. 23, and Dec. 27 to Dec. 30.
