Young man struck by train at Gallery Place/Chinatown Metrorail station


Red Line service significantly impacted through rush hour

Metro officials are responding to a preliminary report of a young man who was struck by the side of a Red Line train as it pulled into the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metrorail station at about 3:35 p.m. today (Nov. 30). The victim is believed to be a minor. The train was headed in the direction of Shady Grove.

Customers should expect major delays of an hour or more on the Red Line during the afternoon rush period. If customers have the opportunity to avoid the Red Line, they are encouraged to do so.

Red Line trains are currently taking turns sharing one track (single-tracking) between Farragut North and Judiciary Square Metrorail station.

Nearby Metrobus service is available to get people around the scene of the incident. Customers may consider the following Metrobus routes:

• Route 42 to Mount Pleasant
• Routes 70, 71 to Silver Spring Metrorail station
• Route 79 to Silver Spring Metrorail station
• Route 80 to Fort Totten Metrorail station
• Route P6 to Anacostia and Rhode Island Ave Metrorail stations
• Route X2 to Lafayette Square and Minnesota Ave Metrorail station
