New Metrobus service changes in the District of Columbia begin December 27


20 bus lines to see changes

Metrobus service will change on 20 lines in the District of Columbia, beginning Sunday, December 27.

32 Pennsylvania Avenue Line

Weekday westbound trips leaving 10th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, at 5:03 and 5:48 p.m. will be extended to service Friendship Heights.

42, 43 Mount Pleasant Line

The weekday southbound route 42 buses leaving Mount Pleasant at 7:34, 7:46, and 9:25 a.m. will instead be serviced by route 43. The 7:51 a.m. route 43 bus will be changed to a route 42 bus leaving Mount Pleasant at the same time.

Weekday northbound trips leaving 9th and G Streets, NW, at 8:18 a.m. and 2:55 p.m. will be discontinued. Other trip times will be adjusted slightly. The Saturday and Sunday schedule also will change.

52, 53, 54 14th Street Line

Weekday evening trip times starting at 9 p.m. will be adjusted in both directions.

70 Georgia Avenue – 7th Street Line

Weekday evening trip times starting at 9 p.m. will be adjusted in both directions. The weekday southbound trip leaving Silver Spring at 12:14 a.m. will be extended to service Archives.

Weekday, Saturday, and Sunday southbound trips scheduled to arrive at Half and O Streets, SW, after 8 p.m. will continue past the terminal via the northbound route and end at 7th and E Streets, SW.

79 Georgia Avenue Metro Extra Line

The addition of a southbound trip will result in buses leaving Silver Spring every six to seven minutes between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. The midday schedule also will change.

90, 92, 93 U street – Garfield Line

Weekday northbound service will run every five minutes between 7 and 9 a.m. Weekday southbound service will run every five and half minutes between 4 and 6 p.m.

A new weekday southbound route 92 bus will be scheduled to leave Duke Ellington Bridge at 2:42 a.m. Weekday evening trips starting at 9 p.m. will be adjusted in both directions.

B2 Bladensburg Road – Anacostia Line

Every other weekday northbound bus from Anacostia will terminate at Bladensburg Road and V Street, NE, during morning and afternoon peak periods, instead of Mount Rainier. Every other weekday southbound bus to Anacostia will leave from Bladensburg Road and 26th Street, NE, instead of Mount Rainier. The weekday schedule will change.

D1 Glover Park – Federal Triangle Line

The route will be changed to operate between Glover Park and Federal Triangle. Eastbound buses will follow the regular route from Glover Park to 13th and E Streets, NW, then continue via 13th Street onto Pennsylvania Avenue to the terminal stand on the west side of 10th Street, NW. The westbound route will begin at this terminal stand and continue via Constitution Avenue, 12th Street, Pennsylvania Avenue, 13th Street and resume the regular route.

Two new buses will be scheduled to leave eastbound from Glover Park at 9:05 a.m. and westbound from Federal Triangle at 7:05 p.m. The bus schedule will change.

D3 Ivy City – Dupont Circle Line

The route will be shortened to operate between Ivy City and Dupont Circle. Westbound trips will follow the regular route and terminate at P and 22nd Streets, NW, with some trips extended to 35th Street and Reservoir Road, NW. All eastbound trips will begin at Massachusetts Avenue and 20th Street, NW, and follow the regular route to Ivy City. The schedule will be adjusted slightly.

D4 Ivy City – Franklin Square Line

Route D4 will no longer service Union Station. The route will change to operate between Ivy City and Franklin Square. Westbound buses will follow the regular route to K and North Capitol Streets then continue via K Street, 6th Street, Massachusetts Avenue, back onto K Street, New York Avenue, and continue to the new terminal stand on the north side of I (Eye) Street, NW, west of 13th Street. The eastbound route will begin at this terminal stand, then continue via 14th Street, K Street, 10th Street, New York Avenue, back onto K Street, Massachusetts Avenue, 6th Street, again on K Street and will then resume the regular route to Ivy City from K and North Capitol Streets.

Weekday, Saturday and Sunday schedules will change. Buses will run every 15 minutes during morning and afternoon peak periods and every 30 minutes during the off-peak period and weekends. Routes D3 and D8 will continue to service Union Station.

D5 MacArthur Boulevard – Georgetown Line

Two additional westbound buses will be scheduled to depart at 3:20 and 6:55 p.m. from Farragut Square.

D6 Sibley Hospital – Stadium Armory Line

The weekday schedule will change. Buses servicing the route between Sibley Hospital and Stadium-Armory Metrorail station will be scheduled every 22 to 25 minutes with shorter route buses servicing in between during the afternoon peak period. Eastbound short trip buses to Stadium Armory will leave Farragut Square (on 17th Street) at 3:14, 3:39, 4:02, 4:25, 4:45, 5:09, 5:32, 5:54, and 6:13 p.m. Westbound short trips to Sibley Hospital will leave Farragut Square at 4:47, 5:11, 5:37, 5:59, 6:23, and 6:47 p.m.

D8 Hospital Center Line

Weekday service will run every 12 to 18 minutes during the morning peak period, every 10 minutes during the afternoon peak period, and every 30 minutes on Sunday. An earlier Saturday northbound trip will be scheduled to leave Union Station at 6:22 a.m.

M4 Nebraska Avenue Line

The line will be changed from a loop operation to a two-way directional route with terminals at Pinehurst Circle and Sibley Hospital. Trip times will be adjusted in the afternoon peak period.

N3 Massachusetts Avenue Line

Route N3 will be rerouted in the vicinity of Dupont Circle, near the State Department, and at Federal Triangle. Eastbound buses will follow the regular route to Sheridan Circle and 23rd Street, NW, then continue via Sheridan Circle, Massachusetts Avenue, 20th Street, New Hampshire Avenue, M Street, 23rd Street, around Washington Circle, again onto 23rd Street (south), Virginia Avenue, 19th Street, Constitution Avenue, 12th Street, Pennsylvania Avenue and finally to the terminal stand on the west side of 10th Street. Westbound buses will begin at the terminal stand on the west side of 12th Street, NW, then continue via 12th Street, Constitution Avenue, Virginia Avenue, 23rd Street, around Washington Circle, onto New Hampshire Avenue (north), 20th Street, then Massachusetts Avenue to 22nd Street and will then resume the regular route. The schedule will also be adjusted slightly.

S1 16th Street – Potomac Park Line

Some southbound buses will begin service at 14th and Decatur Streets, NW, continue north on 14th Street to Missouri Avenue and then follow the regular route. The scheduled trip times will change between Virginia Avenue and E Street, NW, and K and 17th Streets, NW.

S2, S4 16th Street Line

Some southbound buses that begin at 14th Street and Missouri Avenue, NW, in the morning peak period, instead begin service at 14th and Decatur Streets, NW, continue north on 14th Street to Missouri Avenue and will then follow the regular route. Other morning peak period S2 buses scheduled to begin service at 14th Street and Missouri Avenue will be changed to begin at a new terminal on the east side of 14th Street, NW, south of Buchanan Street, then continue on 14th Street to Missouri Avenue and will then follow the regular route.

The weekday morning and afternoon peak hour schedules will be adjusted slightly. Weekday evening trip times starting at 9 p.m. will be adjusted in both directions. Sunday morning service will change to run every 10 minutes.

V7, V9 Minnesota Avenue – M Street Line

Weekday service will run every nine minutes westbound between 7 and 9 a.m. and eastbound between 3:30 and 6 p.m.

W4 Deanwood – Alabama Avenue Line

The weekday schedule will change. The southbound trip leaving Deanwood at 3:10 p.m. will be changed to leave at 5:03 p.m. on days when public school is open. Late night service will be extended to operate Monday through Friday.

X2 Benning Road – H Street Line

Five new weekday trips (eastbound) will be scheduled in order to reduce crowding. These trips will start at a new terminal stand on the west side of 9th Street, NW, then continue via 9th Street, to H Street and will then follow the regular route to Minnesota Avenue Metrorail station. Buses will leave 9th Street and New York Avenue at 3:31, 4:04, 4:38, 5:11, and 5:48 p.m. Weekday evening trip times starting at 9 p.m. will be adjusted in both directions.
