Red Line trains single-tracking downtown after man struck by train Sunday

Man struck by Red Line train at Gallery Place

All Red Line stations are open again while trains are single-tracking between the Farragut North and Judiciary Square Metrorail stations today (Sunday, December 27) after an early-morning incident in which a man was struck by a train at 7:28 a.m. as it pulled into the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metrorail station headed in the direction of Shady Grove. Delays are expected to be minor.

The Red Line was temporarily split into two segments—from Union Station to Glenmont Metrorail station and from Metro Center to Shady Grove Metrorail station—with the Red Line platform at Gallery Place and Judiciary Square stations temporarily closed while emergency rescue personnel removed the man and transported him to a nearby hospital. Once the man was removed and emergency personnel cleared the tracks, service returned to those stations.

The Red Line platform at Gallery Place-Chinatown and Judiciary Square Metrorail stations were closed for about an hour while free shuttle buses took customers around the incident.

Metro Transit Police continue to investigate the cause of the incident.
