Red Line service returns to normal Sunday after man struck by train


Man struck by train at Gallery Place-Chinatown Metrorail station

Red Line service returned to normal at about 9 a.m., after an early-morning incident in which a man was struck by a Red Line train headed in the direction of Shady Grove at 7:28 a.m. today (Sunday, December 27).

The Red Line platform at the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metrorail station and the Judiciary Square Metrorail station were temporarily closed for about an hour while rescue crews removed the man and transported him to a local hospital.

Trains single-tracked between the Farragut North and Judiciary Square Metrorail stations for an additional 30 minutes while Metro Transit Police continued their investigation and while a Metro maintenance crew prepared the track to return to service.

Metro Transit Police continue to investigate the cause of the incident.
