Metro sets January weeknight track maintenance schedule


Customers should add 20 to 30 minutes to weeknight travel times

Most nights in January, Metro will replace fasteners, make repairs to concrete slabs underneath the rails and conduct preliminary switch repairs at the Rosslyn Metrorail station. Customers should add at least 20 to 30 minutes of additional travel time to their schedules from Sunday to Thursday nights between 8 and 9:30 p.m. to closing (midnight) on the Red, Blue and Orange lines.

Red Line Track Maintenance Sunday through Thursday nights

Metrorail customers traveling between the Medical Center and Grosvenor-Strathmore Metrorail stations should add at least 20 minutes to their travel time to allow Metro to replace rail fasteners that stabilize tracks. Trains will share one track between these locations from 8 p.m., through closing (midnight) from Jan. 3 to Jan. 7; Jan. 11 to Jan. 14; Jan. 19 to Jan. 21; and Jan. 24 to Jan. 28.

This portion of work on the Red Line between the Medical Center and Grosvenor-Strathmore Metrorail stations is in conjunction with the Red Line rehabilitation contract. This work is an extension of Metro’s Track and Structures maintenance work of replacing track fasteners, track, crossties and insulators.

Blue Line Track Maintenance Sunday through Thursday nights

Metrorail customers traveling between the Stadium-Armory and Addison Road-Seat Pleasant Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes to their travel time to allow Metro to replace concrete slabs underneath the rails. Trains will share one track between these locations from 9:30 p.m., through closing (midnight) from Jan. 3 to Jan. 7; Jan. 11 to Jan. 14; Jan. 19 to Jan. 21; and Jan. 24 to Jan. 28.

Blue and Orange Line Track Maintenance Sunday through Thursday nights

Metrorail customers traveling between the Foggy Bottom and Clarendon (Orange Line) and Arlington Cemetery (Blue Line) Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes to their travel time to allow Metro to replace rail fasteners that stabilize tracks. Trains will share one track between these locations from 9:30 p.m. through closing (midnight) from Jan. 10 to Jan. 14; Jan. 19 to Jan. 21; and Jan. 24 to Jan. 28.

Blue and Orange Line Track Maintenance Sunday through Thursday nights

Metrorail customers traveling between the Foggy Bottom and Clarendon (Orange Line) and Arlington Cemetery (Blue Line) Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes to their travel time to allow Metro to conduct preliminary switch replacement work at the Rosslyn Metrorail station. Trains will share one track between these locations from 9:30 p.m., through closing (midnight) from Jan. 31 to Feb. 4; and Feb. 7 to Feb. 11.
