Red Line trains delayed late Monday night

Woman struck by train at Woodley Park Metrorail station

Late night Red Line service was impacted Monday, Jan. 4, after a woman was struck by a Red Line train at the Woodley Park Metrorail station at 11:36 p.m.. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital and was reported to be in critical condition.

A preliminary report indicates that the woman intentionally placed herself on the tracks. She was hit by a six-car train traveling toward Shady Grove.

Immediately after the incident, trains shared a single track between the Cleveland Park and Dupont Circle Metrorail stations. However, train service to Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan Metrorail station was stopped during the police investigation and the Red Line trains were terminating at Cleveland Park and Dupont Circle Metrorail stations. Metrobus had two shuttle buses operating between Van Ness-UDC and Dupont Circle Metrorail stations to get late night passengers to their destinations.

The Metro Transit Police continue to investigate the incident.
