Peter Benjamin elected Chairman of Metro's Board of Directors


Catherine Hudgins, Neil Albert elected first and second vice chairs

Peter Benjamin has been elected to serve a year-long term as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) effective immediately. Benjamin, a Board member representing Montgomery County for the State of Maryland, succeeds Jim Graham, whose one-year term as chairman ended today.

Benjamin, who has been on the Metro Board since 2007, previously served as Metro’s Chief Financial Officer from 1993 to 2006, the Director of Planning from 1989 to 1993, and was a Senior Financial Advisor from 1986 to 1989. Prior to that, Benjamin was Associate Administrator of the Federal Transit Administration. Benjamin was elected Mayor of Garrett Park, MD, for three terms and has led and served on numerous committees and panels of the American Public Transportation Association and the Transportation Research Board.

Also today, Catherine Hudgins, representing Virginia, was elected First Vice Chairman and Neil Albert, representing the District of Columbia, was elected Second Vice Chairman of the Metro Board.
