Snow continues to impact Metrobus, MetroAccess service

Road conditions dictate level of service Metro is able to provide

Snow and icy roadways are continuing to limit Metro’s ability to provide Metrobus and MetroAccess service today, January 31.

Metrobuses are continuing to operate on emergency snow routes only, which means that buses are traveling only on main roadways where streets are passable. Bus riders are encouraged to be extra cautious when boarding and alighting vehicles as many area sidewalks and roadways remain slippery.

Bus officials continue to stay in touch with the local departments of transportation to let officials in the local jurisdictions know where some of the biggest challenges exist for providing bus service in hopes that those areas can be cleared of snow and treated for icy conditions to allow for safe bus passage.

MetroAccess has cancelled all trips for customers who have pick-up times starting before 8 a.m. today, January 31. Customers received automated phone calls last night to inform them of the cancellation.

Metrobus and MetroAccess officials are monitoring road conditions constantly with an eye toward expanding service levels as soon as conditions improve.

Metrorail is operating on a normal schedule, however customers are advised to take care around slippery surfaces, such as sidewalks, parking facilities, pathways to Metrorail stations, outdoor station platforms and transfer points between Metrobus and Metrorail.

In addition, Metrorail station escalators and elevators that are exposed to outdoor elements may be icy and slippery and should be used with caution.

Metro employees will continue to clear ice and snow from station entrances and parking facilities and treat any slippery surfaces throughout the day.
