Snowy roadways impact Metrobus service

Metrorail able to provide regular service

Snow and icy roadways are limiting Metro’s ability to provide safe Metrobus service and Metrobuses are operating on emergency snow routes only tonight (Feb. 2). The same limited Metrobus service is expected for Wednesday morning’s rush hour.

The Metrorail system is operating on a normal schedule and anticipates an on-time opening at 5 a.m. tomorrow.

Metrobuses are traveling only on emergency snow routes, main roadways where streets are passable. Bus riders are encouraged to be extra cautious when boarding and alighting vehicles as many area sidewalks and roadways are slippery.

MetroAccess is offering regular service, however some trips may be delayed due to road conditions. MetroAccess may scale back service if conditions deteriorate and customers with scheduled trips will be notified if service will be restricted.

Metrobus and MetroAccess officials will be monitoring road conditions constantly with an eye toward expanding service levels when conditions improve.

Metrorail is expected to operate very close to normal schedule. Metro will run empty trains on above ground portions of track during the overnight hours to help keep the electrified third rail free of ice. If necessary, Metro will run de-icer trains overnight. The third rail must be ice-free to allow the flow of electricity from the electrified rail to the train to keep the train powered. Rail riders are encouraged to be extra cautious in parking lots, station entrances and platforms as many area walkways are slippery.
