Metro announces weekend rail and bus service changes

Weekend track maintenance on the Red Line Four Metrobus routes detoured for weekend activities

Track maintenance on the Red Line this weekend (Feb. 26-28) will cause inbound and outbound trains to take turns sharing one track. Customers should add 20 minutes to their trips. Additionally, four Metrobus lines will be detoured for weekend activities. Customers using these Metrobus lines should add additional time for their travel.

Red Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the Medical Center and Grosvenor-Strathmore Metrorail stations should add at least 20 minutes to their travel time because Metro will replace rail fasteners that stabilize tracks, and make tunnel repairs. Trains will share one track between these locations the entire weekend from 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, Feb. 28.

To help expedite rail travel into downtown Washington, every other Red Line train traveling toward the Shady Grove Metrorail station will terminate at the Friendship Heights Metrorail station and will return to the Glenmont Metrorail station.

This portion of work on the Red Line between the Medical Center and Grosvenor-Strathmore Metrorail stations is part of a larger multi-year Red Line rehabilitation project that will run through 2013.

Rerouting of Metrobus Route 80

From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 27, Metrobus route 80 will be rerouted due to a heavy crane lifting operations that will close 19th St., N.W. between C and E St.

Rerouting of Metrobus Routes 10A, 10G and 16P

From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., on Sunday, Feb. 28, Metrobus routes 10A, 10G and 16P will be rerouted due to a 5K marathon North Joyce St., between 15th St., North and Army Navy Drive.
