Metro announces weekend rail and bus service changes

Trains to share one track on the Red, Blue and Orange lines; 8 Metrobus routes detoured for weekend activities

Track maintenance on the Red Line and an emergency drill at the Rosslyn Metrorail station on the Blue and Orange Line this weekend (March 26-28) will cause inbound and outbound trains to take turns sharing one track. Customers should add 30 minutes to their trips. Additionally, eight Metrobus lines will be detoured for weekend activities. Customers using these Metrobus lines should add additional time for their travel.

Red Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the Friendship Heights and Medical Center Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes to their travel time because Metro personnel will be replacing 1,600 feet of rail, and 500 to 600 rail fasteners that stabilize tracks during the weekend on the outbound track. Trains will share one track between these locations the entire weekend from 8 p.m., Friday, March 26, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, March 28.

To help expedite rail travel into downtown Washington, every other Red Line train traveling toward the Shady Grove Metrorail station will terminate at the Friendship Heights Metrorail station and will return to the Glenmont Metrorail station.

Blue and Orange Line – Emergency Drill

Metrorail customers traveling between the Foggy Bottom-GWU and Arlington Cemetery Metrorail stations on the Blue Line, and between the Foggy Bottom-GWU and Court House Metrorail stations on the Orange Line should add at least 30 minutes to their travel time because of an emergency exercise drill taking place the Rosslyn Metrorail station. Trains will share one track between these locations from 11 p.m. to closing (3 a.m.), on Saturday, March 27/Sunday, March 28.

Passengers using the Rosslyn Metrorail station and residents in the area should expect to see numerous police, fire and emergency response vehicles, first responders and volunteer “victims” near the station between 11 p.m. Saturday, March 27, and 5 a.m. Sunday, March 28.

Rerouting of Metrobus Routes 32, 34, 36, 52, 54, 70, P6, V8

From 8:15 to 11 a.m., on Saturday, March 27, Metrobus routes 32, 34, 36, 52, 54, 70, P6, and V8 will be rerouted for the National Walk for Epilepsy that will close the National Mall between 7th and 14th Sts., between Constitution Ave and Independence Ave.
