Rhode Island Avenue Metrorail station parking lot to close April 30

Customers encouraged to use alternate Metro parking facilities

The surface parking lot at the Rhode Island Avenue-Brentwood Metrorail station will close permanently at the end of operating hours on Friday, April 30, to make way for construction of a new parking garage, housing and retail development project.

A joint development agreement between Metro and Urban Atlantic Development will allow for construction of 274 residential units, 65,000 square feet of retail space and a multi-level parking facility. The Rhode Island Avenue-Brentwood Metrorail station surface lot will be replaced by a parking garage for 215 vehicles with additional shared space available in the residential and retail parking garages.

Signs indicating the work will be posted at the entrance of the parking lot and at the pedestrian walkways to the station. The Kiss and Ride area will continue to accommodate ADA accessible parking, car-sharing, taxis and passenger pick-up and drop-off during the construction. Some bus stops will be relocated temporarily during a later phase of the construction project and customers will be advised of the changes through posted signage.

Customers who park daily at the Rhode Island Avenue-Brentwood Metrorail station and current reserved parking permit holders are able to park or purchase a reserved parking permit at any other Metro parking facility where space is available. A complete list of Metro parking facilities can be found online at www.wmata.com/rail/parking/daily_parking.cfm .
