Yellow/Green Lines single-tracking

Major delays on Yellow/Green Lines to allow police to investigate incident

Yellow and Green Line trains are taking turns sharing one track through the Mt. Vernon Sq/7th St-Convention Center Metrorail station to allow Metro Transit Police to investigate an early-afternoon incident today (April 7) in which a woman is believed to have placed herself in the path of an oncoming train. The woman, who was struck by the train at about 1:18 p.m., was taken to a nearby hospital.

Customers should expect significant delays on the Yellow and Green Lines throughout the remainder of the afternoon as emergency personnel remain on the scene. Regular service through the station will resume once the on-scene investigation allows the track involved in the incident to be put back in use.

Customers may consider using Metrobus Routes 70, 71 and 79 (an express route) to get around the incident. Those bus routes operate along Georgia Avenue and 7th Street.

The six-car train involved in the incident was headed in the direction of Branch Avenue. The station was closed from the time of the incident until 2:25 p.m., at which time trains began to single-track or share one track.
