Metro outlines Nuclear Security Summit Metrobus detours


Street closures and detours to impact 13 Metrobus lines

Up to 13 Metrobus lines will be detoured or experience possible short-notice service changes from April 11 to 13 due street closures associated with to the Nuclear Security Summit at the Washington Convention Center. Customers who use Metrobus in this area should expect major delays due to detours associated with the road closures.

Rolling street closures associated with motorcades also may slow buses traveling downtown during this timeframe.

Customers who use these Metrobus routes should take advantage of the Next Bus prediction technology to get an idea of when the next bus will be arriving by logging onto Metro’s Web site or calling 202-637-7000 and saying, “Next Bus.”

The Mt. Vernon Square/7th St-Convention Center Metrorail Station (Yellow and Green Lines) will close at 9 p.m., on Sunday, April 11, and will reopen at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14, due to security concerns associated with the Nuclear Security Summit at the Washington Convention Center. Trains will be able to pass through the station, but passengers will not be allowed to access the station.

The following Metrobus routes will be detoured starting at noon, Sunday, April 11, through midnight, Tuesday, April 13. Metro anticipates these routes returning to normal on Wednesday, April 14.

Route 70 trips to Archives
Buses will turn back at the Shaw-Howard U Metrorail station (7th St., and Rhode Island Ave., NW). Buses will return northbound via a right turn on Rhode Island Ave., a left onto 9th St., a left onto Q St, and a left onto 7th St.

Route 70, 71 trips to Half & O Streets, SW or Buzzard Point
Buses will be rerouted in both directions between the Shaw-Howard U Metrorail station and the Archives-Navy Memorail Metrorail station via Rhode Island Ave, 11th St., and Pennsylvania Ave. Metro will place extra buses in service if necessary to maintain its regular schedule.

Route 79
Buses will be rerouted in both directions between the Shaw-Howard U Metrorail station and the Archives-Navy Memorial Metrorail station via Rhode Island Ave., 11th St., and Pennsylvania Ave. The terminal stand will be relocated to 10th St., so that northbound buses can turn left on Pennsylvania Ave ., to 11th St. The only stops on the detour will be at 11th and H Streets and the 10th St. terminal.

Route G8
Buses will be rerouted westbound between Rhode Island Ave. and 7th St., NW, and 13th and I Streets via Rhode Island Ave., 11th St., and I St., to 13th St. and regular route.

Route D4
Buses will be rerouted in both directions between 5th and K Streets NW, and Franklin Square via 5th St., F St., and 13th St.

The following Metrobus routes are not directly impacted by planned street closings, however, these routes might be detoured on short-notice in response to specific events.

Route 42
Buses will turn back at Farragut Square.

Route 63, 64
Buses will be rerouted via Rhode Island Ave., 13th St., F St. to 11th St.

Route 80
Buses will be rerouted from North Capitol St., via E St., 13th St., to K St.

Route P6
Buses will be rerouted via E St., between 5th and 11th Streets.

Route S2 and S4
Buses will turn back at Franklin Square.

Route X2
Buses will be rerouted via 3rd St., southbound, 2nd St., northbound, E St., 13th St., to I St.

Metrobus riders whose routes are impacted by the street closures should plan for their bus trips to take a significant amount of additional travel time starting at noon on Sunday, April 11. Regular Metrobus service will resume on Wednesday, April 14.
