U Street-Garfield Metrobus line to be discussed at public forum

Metro announces open meetings to discuss issues, improvements to bus line

Metro will hold three public meetings from Tuesday to Thursday (May 18-20) in the District of Columbia to discuss improving service reliability along the Metrobus U Street-Garfield Line, which averages more that 14,000 riders every weekday.

Tuesday’s meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Douglass Community Center, Frederick Douglass Court and Stanton Terrace, S.E. Wednesday’s meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at J.O. Wilson Elementary School, 6th and K streets, N.E. The meeting on Thursday will be held from noon to 2 p.m. at the Reeves Center, 14th and U streets, N.W.

All meetings are open to the public and no registration is required. Each meeting will begin with a half-hour open house, followed by a 20-minute presentation and a one-hour group discussion.

The meetings are part of Metro’s public outreach to assess possible service improvements to the U Street-Garfield Line. Metro staff members are seeking feedback from riders, businesses and customers.

The line study, which focuses on Metrobus routes 90, 92 and 93, began with a rider survey in April. Metro staff distributed about 5,000 surveys on buses and at selected stops along the U Street-Garfield Line.

Preliminary results of the survey will be discussed at the public meetings. An on-line version of the survey can be found on the project Web site at www.metrobus-studies.com through the end of June.
