Metro sets public hearing on Capital Budget, Capital Improvement Program


Projects include replacing 1000 series rail cars, rehabilitating portions of rail lines

Metro will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, June 2, to receive public input on Metro’s FY2011 Capital Budget and Capital Improvement Program, both of which focus on ensuring safety and maintaining a state of good repair across the Metro system.

The public is invited to provide input on projects that Metro staff has proposed to include in its FY2011 Capital Improvement Program, which is expected to total $709.3 million. Projects include replacing the 1000 series rail cars; replacing and rehabilitating old buses and bus garages; and rehabilitating the Red Line between Dupont Circle and Silver Spring Metrorail stations and the Blue/Yellow/Orange lines between Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Stadium-Armory Metrorail stations.

The hearing is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, at Metro Headquarters, in the lobby-level Board Room, 600 Fifth Street, NW, Washington, D.C.

The locations of all public hearings are wheelchair accessible. How to Register to Speak

In order to establish a witness list, individuals and representatives of organizations who wish to be heard at this public hearing are requested to provide in writing their name, mailing address, telephone number and organization affiliation, if any, via e-mail to speak@wmata.com. The request may also be mailed to the Office of the Secretary, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, 600 Fifth Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20001. Alternatively, you may fax this information to 202-962-1133. Please submit only one speaker’s name per letter. Lists of individual speakers will not be accepted. Public officials will be heard first and will be allowed five minutes each to make their presentations. All others will be allowed three minutes each. Relinquishing of time by one speaker to another will not be permitted.

How to Submit Written Statements

The deadline for written statements and exhibits has been extended to 5 p.m. Monday, June 14. Submissions should be sent to the Office of the Secretary and may be emailed to writtentestimony@wmata.com. They may also be mailed to the Office of the Secretary, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, 600 Fifth Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001.
