Expect delays on Red Line

Trains single-tracking due to track equipment derailment

Red Line riders should expect delays this morning as trains are starting the day sharing one track while crews work to repair the track after a piece of track equipment derailed near Union Station prior to the rail system opening this morning, Wednesday, May 26.

Trains are taking turns sharing one track between Judiciary Square and New York Ave-Florida Ave-Gallaudet U Metrorail stations. Riders can expect delays of up to an hour.

People headed downtown from the Glenmont area may want to consider transferring to the Green Line at Fort Totten to lessen their delay.

The track equipment, called a Petibone, was on the track headed in the direction of Glenmont at 4:23 a.m. It was re-railed about an hour later, and workers are in the process of making repairs to a portion of the track that was damaged by the derailed equipment. There were no injuries.

Per standard procedure, the Tri-State Oversight Committee was notified of the incident this morning.
