Metrobuses detour on 20 routes this weekend


Regional events force Metrobuses to temporarily re-route beginning May 29; extended detour period to start on route K12

Metrobus customers will experience detours at various times on 20 routes from Saturday (May 29) to Wednesday (Jun 2) in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia due to Memorial Day celebrations and construction projects. Also, a bridge reconstruction project gets underway Monday (May 31) in Allentown, Md., forcing Metrobus detours until fall 2011.

District of Columbia:

Routes 64, 70, G2 and G8 will detour from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday around M Street, N.W., between 6th and 7th streets, due to the United House of Prayer Memorial Parade.

Routes 5A, 7, 32, 34, 36, 52, 54, 64, 70, P6, S2, S4 and V8 will detour from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday (May 30) around Memorial Bridge, and Constitution and Independence avenues, between 3rd and 23rd streets, due to the Rolling Thunder XXII Ride for Freedom.

Routes 5A, 32, 34, 36, 64, 52, 54, 70, 80, P6, S2, S4 and V8 will detour from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday around Constitution Avenue, N.W., between 7th and 23 streets, due to the 4th Annual National Memorial Day Parade.

Maryland:

Route B24 will detour from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday around Stonybrook Drive, between Sage Lane and Annapolis Road, due to the City of Bowie Memorial Day Parade.

Route K12 will detour from Monday until fall 2011 around northbound Forestville Road, between Allentown Road and Suitland Parkway, due to reconstruction of the bridge over Interstate 95/495.

Virginia:

Routes 25A, 25B and 25C are detouring around Campus Lane East, between Daws Avenue and Beauregard Street, in Alexandria until 11 p.m. Wednesday due to road construction.

Metrobus service operations managers will monitor the events and adjust schedules as necessary.

Metrobus customers can use the Next Bus information service to find out when buses will arrive at a given stop, by logging onto Metro’s Web site or calling 202-637-7000 and saying, “Next Bus.”
