Transit Police Investigating Fight at Union Station


One person injured; one arrest made

Metro Transit Police continue to investigate a large fight that took place today (June 4) inside the Union Station Metrorail station at about 1:15 p.m.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the incident began when a large group of individuals were involved in an altercation on the platform. A Metro Transit Police officer was at the station and he called for assistance. U.S. Capitol Police responded and provided assistance.

One minor was injured in the fight. He is believed to be a victim of a robbery of his shoes. He was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The incident was initially reported to be a shooting, however a shooting did not take place. Police recovered a realistic training firearm from the platform as evidence. The station was initially closed while police gathered other evidence from the tracks.

Metro Transit Police arrested a male minor in possession of a BB gun at Metro Center shortly after the Union Station incident. It is not yet known if he was involved in the initial altercation.

Transit Police continue to investigate the incident.
