Federal Center SW Metrorail reopened after smoke incident


Initial investigation focused on smoke from pylon

The Federal Center SW Metrorail station was evacuated and temporarily closed from about 1:30 to 2:25 p.m. today, June 8, due to smoke in the station.

The Metro Transit Police Department, maintenance personnel and the District of Columbia Fire Department reported to the station to investigate. Preliminary reports indicate there was an electrical problem within or near a pylon on the station platform.

Orange and Blue Line trains passed through the station without stopping during the incident.

No injuries were reported.
