Dunn Loring-Merrifield Metrorail station remains temporarily closed


Man struck by Orange Line train

The Dunn Loring-Merrifield Metrorail station on the Orange Line remains temporarily closed after a man was struck by an inbound six-car train at about 1:15 p.m. today (June 16).

The station is temporarily closed. Orange Line trains are passing through the Dunn Loring-Merrifield Metrorail station, but are not stopping while they share one track between the Vienna and West Falls Church Metrorail stations.

Metro is providing free shuttle bus service between the Vienna, Dunn Loring-Merrifield and West Falls Church Metrorail stations to help move customers around the incident. Buses began to arrive at the station at 1:50 p.m. Customers should please keep in mind that a train can carry several hundred passengers, but a bus can only carry 50 passengers at a time. Waits for buses will be lengthy.

Orange Line customers should expect delays throughout the remainder of the afternoon as emergency personnel respond to the scene.

The preliminary police report indicates that the man intentionally placed himself in the path of the train.
