Dunn Loring-Merrifield Metrorail station reopens


Single-tracking through the station continues

The Dunn Loring-Merrifield Metrorail station on the Orange Line reopened at about 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, after a man was fatally struck by an inbound six-car train at about 1:15 p.m. The station was temporarily closed while emergency personnel responded to the scene.

Orange Line trains currently are sharing one track between the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU and West Falls Church Metrorail stations. In addition, Metro is providing free shuttle bus service between the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU, Dunn Loring-Merrifield and West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail stations to help move customers around the incident. Normal service will resume once the tracks are cleared for service.

The preliminary police report indicates that the man intentionally placed himself in the path of the train.
