Metro to discuss U Street-Garfield Line at public meetings in D.C.

Three meetings held to get public feedback on potential line improvements

Metro will hold three public meetings from Tuesday, June 29, to Thursday, July 1, at different locations in the District of Columbia to discuss service improvements to the Metrobus U Street-Garfield Line, based on Metro’s study of the line.

The meetings will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., beginning with an open house, followed by a presentation and breakout group session. The U-Street-Garfield Line study team will present a set of potential improvement concepts for rider comments and suggestions.

Tuesday’s meeting will convene at Savoy Elementary School, 2400 Shannon Place, SE. Wednesday’s meeting will convene at Sherwood Recreation Center, 640 10th Street, NE. Thursday’s meeting will convene at the Marie Reed Learning Center, 2200 Champlain Street, NW.

Metro began the first phase of the line study April 2010 with a rider survey, followed by three public meetings in May. The agency also created a web page (www.metrobus-studies.com/90s/90s.htm) where customers can get details of the study.

The U Street-Garfield Line is served by Metrobus routes 90, 92 and 93. Overcrowding on the routes causes frequent delays and other problems. The line averages nearly 15,000 riders on weekdays.
