Man on tracks struck by train early Sunday morning

Minimal impact to service due to early hour

A man was taken to a nearby hospital early Sunday when he was struck by a train at the Minnesota Ave Metrorail station at about 2:55 a.m. (July 4). The train was headed in the direction of New Carrollton on the Orange Line. The preliminary report is that his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

There was minimal impact to rail service because the rail system closes at 3 a.m. on Sunday morning. However buses were available to shuttle customers around the disruption.

The station opened on time for service this morning.

Metro Transit Police Department continues its investigation into the incident.
