Friendship Heights Metrorail station reopens

Electricity restored to station

The Friendship Heights Metrorail station was closed from about 2:15 to 3:30 p.m. this afternoon due to a power outage associated with thunderstorm activity that darkened the station.

The station was closed temporarily to ensure customer safety due to a lack of lighting. The station had no electricity other than on the tracks, so there were no operating elevators, escalators, fare vending machines, faregates or lights.

News release issued at 3:53 pm, July 29, 2010.
