Forest Glen station reopens; normal service resumes between Silver Spring and Takoma

Rail, bus, paratransit service affected by morning storm

Metro’s Forest Glen Metrorail station reopened and normal service has resumed between the Silver Spring and Takoma Metrorail stations, following an early-morning thunderstorm that struck the Washington Metropolitan area causing temporary closures of some rail stations. Metrobuses and MetroAccess vehicles were also slowed through areas where trees blocked roadways and a loss of power affected traffic signals.

The Forest Glen Metrorail station reopened at 9:20 a.m. Normal service on the Red Line between the Silver Spring and Takoma Metrorail stations resumed at 9:40 a.m., following a report of a downed tree on the tracks outside the Takoma Metrorail station. While personnel removed the tree, Red Line trains shared one track between the two stations.

The Cleveland Park Metrorail station remains closed due to high water. Trains are passing through the station without stopping. Shuttle buses are available between the Woodley Park-Zoo and Van Ness-UDC Metrorail stations to help get customers around the closure. As an alternative, customers can also use Metrobus route L2, which operates on Connecticut Avenue and serves the Van Ness-UDC, Cleveland Park and Woodley Park Zoo Metrorail stations.

Metrobuses and MetroAccess vehicles are likely to be delayed due to road conditions impacted by the storm.
