Metro recoups $2.76 million for December and February snow storms
FEMA reimburses partial snow removal costs
Metro has received word that it will receive $1.76 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to cover snow removal costs from the February 2010 snowstorms. FEMA previously provided Metro with $1 million for snow removal expenses from the December 2009 snowstorm.
The multiple snowstorms cost Metro $12.7 million for snow removal efforts and millions more in lost revenue. Snow-related expenses included overtime for labor, contractors, and supplies such as salt, de-icer and fuel for snow removal equipment.
Metro worked with the District of Columbia on behalf of all three Metro jurisdictions to submit snow removal expenses to FEMA for possible reimbursement.
