Gallery Pl-Chinatown, Metro Center stations reopen


Smoking debris in vent shaft cause of smoke

The Gallery Pl-Chinatown and Metro Center Metrorail stations on the Red Line reopened at about 10:35 a.m. Wednesday, September 15, after the stations were temporarily closed at about 10 a.m. due to a report of smoke between the stations.

Emergency personnel and fire officials responded to the scene and determined that the cause of the smoke was smoking debris in a vent shaft along the Red Line between the Gallery Pl-Chinatown and Metro Center Metrorail stations.

During the incident, Red Line trains were not permitted service the Gallery Pl-Chinatown and Metro Center Metrorail stations. However, customers were still permitted to exit Yellow and Green Line trains at Gallery Pl-Chinatown and Blue and Orange Line trains at Metro Center.
