U Street-Garfield Metrobus Line improvement study continues with public meetings

Metro to hold third series of meetings to involve public in potential bus line changes

Metro will hold another round of public meetings from Tuesday to Thursday (Sept. 21-23) in the District of Columbia to discuss recommended changes to improve service reliability on the Metrobus U Street-Garfield Line, which averages more than 14,000 riders every weekday.

Tuesday’s meeting will be held at Sherwood Recreation Center, 10th and G streets, NE. Wednesday’s meeting will be held at the D.C. Housing Finance Agency, 815 Florida Avenue, NW. The meeting on Thursday will be held at the Allen Chapel AME Church, 2498 Alabama Avenue, SE. All meetings will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The meetings are open to the public and no registration is required. Each meeting will begin with a half-hour open house, followed by a 20-minute presentation and a one-hour group discussion.

With the meetings, Metro staff is seeking public input in the agency’s efforts to improve service along the U Street-Garfield Line. Feedback is sought from riders, businesses and customers, anyone affected by service on the line.

Two preliminary recommendations that will improve service to customers include running time recalibrations on Routes 90, 92 and 93 and establishing a new route (99) with peak period limited-stop service between Anacostia Metrorail Station and Dupont Circle.

The line study, which focuses on Routes 90, 92 and 93, began with a rider survey in April. Metro staff distributed about 5,000 surveys on buses and at selected stops along the U Street-Garfield Line.

Three meetings were held in May to hear and discuss issues that concern the public. There were three more public meetings from July to August to discuss potential line improvement options.
