Farragut North Metrorail station reopened Thursday morning

Precautionary inspection took place after ceiling tile dislodged Wednesday

All of Metro’s 86 rail stations opened on time this morning (Thursday, Nov. 18), including the Farragut North Metrorail station, which closed at 8 p.m. yesterday to allow Metro officials to perform emergency inspections of the area where unidentified material penetrated ceiling tile and fell to the platform. There were no injuries.

The material that entered the station appeared to be related to roadway construction along Connecticut Avenue, NW, immediately above the station.

Structural engineers spent the evening examining the station ceiling structure and maintenance crews made temporary repairs. An investigation into the cause of the incident continues.

Officials apologized to customers for Wednesday’s inconvenience, and stressed that the transit agency was proceeding with an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of its passengers, employees and facilities.
