Weekend renovation to improve reliability, service on Red, Blue and Orange Lines

Upgrades to improve efficiency, performance

This weekend (Jan. 28-30) Metro will upgrade areas of track and the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project will continue construction activities on the Orange Line. This crucial work, which includes repairing rail fasteners and repairing tunnel leaks, is critical to maintain the railroad in a state of good repair and ensure reliable service. During the work, trains on the Red, Blue and Orange lines will be single-tracking from 10 p.m., Friday, Jan. 28 to closing on Sunday, Jan. 30.

Red Line Service

Metrorail customers traveling between the Friendship Heights and Van Ness-UDC Metrorail stations should add 20 minutes to their travel times because Metro will replace fasteners and repair tunnel leaks. This work is necessary to maintain reliable service through that area of the track.

Metrorail customers traveling between the New York Avenue-Florida Avenue-Gallaudet U and Rhode Island Avenue-Brentwood Metrorail stations should add 20 minutes to their travel time to allow personnel to make track and station improvements that will help improve reliable service through that area.

From Jan. 29 to Jan. 30, Red Line trains will depart approximately every 15 minutes from the Shady Grove and Glenmont Metrorail stations. From 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., a separate segment of the Red Line will operate approximately every 8 minutes between the Van Ness-UDC and New York Ave-Florida Ave-Gallaudet U Metrorail stations.

Orange Line Service

Metrorail customers traveling between the East Falls Church and West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail stations should allow an extra 20 minutes to travel while Metro single-tracks to replace rail and insulators and enables the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project to conduct major construction activities that will eventually connect the new rail line to the existing Metrorail system.

Blue Line Service

Metrorail customers traveling between the Stadium-Armory and Addison Road-Seat Pleasant Metrorail stations should add 30 minutes to their travel time to allow Metro to replace concrete slabs underneath the rails to help ensure more reliable service and a state of good repair.

Metrorail customers traveling between the Braddock Road and Van Dorn Street Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes to their travel time because of maintenance work related to the Wilson Bridge Project.
