Board Approves Shepherd Parkway Bus Facility Name

Construction underway at site of old D.C. Village

Metro’s Board of Directors voted unanimously to name a new state-of-the-art bus garage that is currently under construction on the former site of D.C. Village the “Shepherd Parkway Bus Facility.” The name is derived from its proximity to Shepherd Parkway in Southwest Washington, D.C.

The facility’s proper name can now be used on permits and any other required legal documents from the start of construction.

Shepherd Parkway Bus Facility replaces the Southeastern Bus Garage that was torn down to make way for the Washington Nationals ballpark and to eliminate potential conflicts with motorist and pedestrian traffic going to the ballpark.

Proceeds from the sale of Southeastern Bus Garage and Federal American Recovery and Reinvestment funds are being used to construct the new facility, which is expected to be completed in the summer of 2012.
