Secure bicycle parking facility proposed for College Park Metrorail station

Metro seeks input from bicyclists on pilot program

Metro would like to pilot a secure bicycle garage at the College Park Metrorail station and is seeking input from local bicyclists on the proposed pilot program.

Specifically, Metro is asking potential users for their views on pricing, payment methods and how to access the garage. Visit PlanItMetro.com to participate in the customer bicycle survey.

The PlanItMetro.com blog outlines several options and asks riders to complete a Metro Bike Garage Access Method Survey. Alternatives include access using a SmarTrip card or a separate parking card, and daily, monthly or annual fees.

The proposed garage would give riders secure bike parking in an enclosed space with room for about 80 bicycles. The facility also would include lighting and surveillance cameras.

Bicycles are permitted on Metrorail except 7 to 10 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. on weekdays. Bikes are not permitted on Metrorail on July 4 or other special events or select holidays when large crowds use the system. Bicycle racks, available for free on a first-come, first-use basis, are available at many rail stations. Additionally, Metro offers bicycle rental lockers at select stations. Bus riders can use bike racks at the front of every Metrobus at any time.
