Weekend renovation to improve reliability, service on Red and Blue Lines

Upgrades to improve efficiency, performance

This weekend (Feb. 11-13) Metro will continue its efforts to rebuild the Metrorail system by upgrading its track and infrastructure systems. As a result of this critical work, trains on the Red and Blue lines will single-track from 10 p.m., Friday, Feb. 11 to closing on Sunday, Feb 13. When the work is complete, it will mean riders will have a safer, smoother ride.

Red Line Service

Metrorail customers traveling between the Shady Grove and Twinbrook Metrorail stations should add 30 minutes to their travel time because Metro will make repairs to the platform at the Rockville Metrorail station to return it to a state of good repair.

Metrorail customers traveling between the Takoma and Forest Glen Metrorail stations should add 20 minutes to their travel time to allow personnel to make upgrades to the train control system that will help improve reliable service through that area.

On Feb. 12 and 13, Red Line trains will depart the Shady Grove and Glenmont Metrorail stations approximately every 24 minutes. From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., a separate segment of the Red Line will operate approximately every 12 minutes between the Grosvenor-Strathmore and Takoma Metrorail stations.

Blue Line Service

Metrorail customers traveling between the Stadium-Armory and Addison Road-Seat Pleasant Metrorail stations should add 30 minutes to their travel time to allow Metro to replace concrete slabs underneath the rails to help ensure more reliable service, provide a smoother ride and return that area to a state of good repair.
