Normal service resumes at Rhode Island Avenue Metrorail station
Red Line service temporarily disrupted after woman struck by train
Normal service resumed on the Red Line at 4:07 p.m. after a woman was struck by a train at the Rhode Island Avenue-Brentwood Metrorail station around 2:25 p.m. today (March 23).
The Rhode Island Avenue station was closed briefly at 2:45 p.m. as emergency personnel responded to the incident. The station reopened around 2:55 p.m. while Red Line trains shared a single track between the Rhode Island Avenue-Brentwood and New York Ave-Florida Ave-Gallaudet U Metrorail stations until 4:07 p.m.
The preliminary police investigation indicated that the woman intentionally placed herself in the path of the oncoming train. She was taken to a local hospital. The Metro Transit Police investigation is ongoing.
