Hampshire-Cowan joins Metro Board


New member represents Prince George's County

Artis Hampshire-Cowan joined the Metro Board of Directors today, May 26, 2011. She represents Prince George’s County and succeeds Marcell Solomon as an alternate director.

Hampshire-Cowan is currently senior vice president and secretary at Howard University where she serves as corporate secretary of the university and manages the affairs of the Board of Trustees. She is leading an effort to expand the university’s North Research Campus in Beltsville, Md. Earlier in her career, she worked in the District of Columbia government as a Congressional lobbyist, attorney-advisor to the deputy mayor of economic development and city administrator, and consumer and regulatory enforcement administrator. Hampshire-Cowan also served as special counsel on construction of the new Redskins stadium previously served as a commissioner for the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission.

The Metro Board of Directors is comprised of 16 members representing the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia and the federal government. There currently are two vacancies on the Board.
