Metro to open at 5 a.m. Saturday for Race for the Cure

Race participants on the Blue and Red lines should allow additional travel time for scheduled track maintenance

Metrorail will open two hours early—at 5 a.m.— on Saturday, June 4, to accommodate runners, walkers, volunteers and spectators for the Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure.

The race, held in downtown Washington, D.C., begins at 8 a.m. with several events prior to the start. All activities take place between 3rd and 7th streets, NW, between Madison Drive and Jefferson Avenue. The nearest stations are the Smithsonian, Federal Center SW, Judiciary Square, Archives-Navy Mem’l-Penn Quarter and L’Enfant Plaza.

Customer Travel Advice

• To avoid lines, Metro customers should load money on SmarTrip cards or farecards to cover their round trip in advance of the race or when they first enter the system.

• Smithsonian, Federal Center SW and Archives-Navy Mem’l-Penn Quarter stations are expected to be among the busiest stations on race day. Customers may wish to consider exiting or entering at other nearby, less crowded stations such as Metro Center, Gallery Pl-Chinatown, L’Enfant Plaza or Union Station.

• Due to scheduled track maintenance on the Blue and Red lines, some customers on these lines should add 30 minutes to their travel schedule. For details, visit metroopensdoors.com
