Metro Earthquake Update 4


Issued at 4:45 p.m.

 Rail

  • Metrorail trains continue operate at 15 mph systemwide as Metro personnel perform track inspections of the entire rail system. The speed restriction is expected to remain in place for several more hours. Customers should expect significant delays on Metrorail until further notice due to the reduced operating speed.
  • Metro is extending the shifts of rail operators to extend rush hour service.
  • Many Metro stations in Downtown DC are crowded at this time. Metro Transit Police are metering the flow of customers entering stations at several locations. However, all stations are open and trains are operating.
  • At Union Station, the Massachusetts Avenue entrance has been closed. Customers should use the First Street entrance instead.

Bus

  • All Metrobus routes are operating with delays due to traffic signal outages and evacuating traffic.
  • Every available Metrobus is being pressed into service.
  • Metro is extending the shifts of bus operators to extend rush hour service.

MetroAccess

  • MetroAccess service is currently experiencing delays due to traffic signal outages and evacuating traffic.

Call Center 

  • Metro's Customer Call Center has been evacuated and will remain closed for the balance of the day.  Customers should refer to wmata.com for service information.
